LDR transforms mobile learning with LOTM tool

Learning-On-The-Move (LOTM) is an award-winningtool that helps teachers create mobile learning trails in order to enhance learning beyond the classroom.LOTM was developed by LDR Pte Ltd, which was founded in 2008 and focuses on making mobile interactive e-learning fun, engaging and memorable.

The company’s mission is to impact and transform organisations and individuals by offering mobile applications, e-learning courseware and consultancy services to support character building, leadership development and organisational growth. In the field of mobile applications, LDR is Singapore’s leading player in the design, development and operation of mobile interactive learning trails to help students and adults appreciate the rich local cultural, historical and natural heritage using the award-winning tool.

LDR has received many awards for LOTM, including a Silver in the Mobile Application category and a Bronze in the E-Government category in the 2012 SiTF Awards. In addition, LDR also won an award at APICTA 2012 for Best Mobile App.

LOTM was built under a CallforCollaboration initiated by the InfocommDevelopment Authority of Singapore (IDA), and a contract to support the development of mobile learning trails for Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE). It is the only mobile learning rapid authoring tool in the market that is equipped with unique features such as the ability to rapidly create content and publish them on both iOS and Android platforms; fuse the content with multiple location-based triggers such as GPS, Image Recognition, and Bluetooth; and supportthe live tracking of participants’ location and performance through a mobile learning management system..

When combined, the features enable teachers, instructors, writers staff or subject-matter-experts to rapidly design, develop and operate their own outdoor self-directed or collaborative trails app, even if they do not have any programming or engineering background. These trails can be created in an “Amazing Race”format for their schools or for corporate learning. The cost involved is very low, and there is no need for them to get help from professional app developers.

The LOTM tool has since been deployed to create and run more than 92 highly interactive mobile trails which allow students and adults alike to appreciate the rich cultural, historical and natural heritage of Singapore. These include 34 interactive Heritage Trails designed for MOE.These are aimed at supporting outdoor learning forall MOE schools, ranging from Primary schools to Tertiary institutions. More than 300,000 students across all schools in Singapore will be impacted by the mobility solution once the trails are fully rolled out in 2014.

The LOTM tool can also be used by any licensed user to create their own location-based trails (for example, arts trails, shopping trails, health trails, community trails) to benefit their own or other communities. Corporate organisationscan also use the tool to rapidly convert and deploy their e-learning content to mobile learning content.
